Reason for joining the team / connection to the story: This started as a project to write my great-great-grandfather’s (Colonel Thomas J. Kelly) biography, and it has mushroomed into a much larger project: to write the story of The Irish Fight for Freedom, from 1833 to present day, from a global perspective.
Role on the team + within the program: Executive Director
My connection to Ireland: First visit was in 2005, when I met the woman who inherited the family interests from the last Kelly to live in the family compound
Visits to Ireland: 2017-2019 for graduate work and for 150-year commemorations and Euro Heritage Week events. Ireland is remembering the people behind the many risings that led up to the successful Rising of 1916.
